Interim/GP management

To refer a patient with this condition, please see the Breast Surgery clinic page for the full referral process and templates.

Women with minor/moderate degrees of breast pain who do not have a discrete palpable lesion should have symptomatic treatment such as simple analgesia, reassurance, well supporting bra, oil of evening primrose.

Cyclical pain in a pre-menopausal woman with no lump should be considered for simple measures.

Refer if pain becomes severe or is intractable.

For more information please see the Tasmanian Health Pathways website.

Red flags are clinical indicators of possible serious underlying conditions requiring further medical intervention. They may or may not indicate an emergency.
