Pre-referral work-up
History
These patients should be referred to the Burns Review Clinic or Tele Burns Clinic.
All referrals should comply to referral standards and also include:
- Details of the original burn and treatment including site and size
- Current condition of scar
- Comorbidities which may delay healing
Tests
- Wound and throat swabs
- Occasional venous bloods

Red flags are clinical indicators of possible serious underlying conditions requiring further medical intervention. They may or may not indicate an emergency.

*MCH and NWRH MOICs request GPs call them prior to referring a patient to ensure the patient is being sent appropriately to a safe destination.
Urgent referrals should be accompanied by a phone call to (03) 6166 8566 and appointment date, time and advice will be given.
