Pre-referral work-up


Generally refer after third miscarriage or after second if maternal age >38 or additional history of infertility

All referrals should comply with referral standards and include in particular:

  • Detailed general medical history including past surgical details
  • Detailed obstetric history


  • TFTs, anti TPO, anti thyroglobulin,
  • HBA1c
  • Prolactin,
  • Lupus anticoagulant, anticardiolipin ab, anti b2 and glycoprotein antibodies
  • Coeliac screen
  • Vitamin D
  • Consider semen analysis as teratospermia can be implicated

Urgent referrals should be accompanied by a phone call to the Consultant/Registrar to organise urgent review and the referral must be faxed.

We will endeavour to see these patients within four weeks, or sooner if clinically indicated.
