What is Telehealth?

The Department will periodically contact patients waiting for an outpatient clinic appointment via SMS, with a link to an electronic form.  This is part of routine waitlist auditing to ensure patient details are up to date.  If you receive this SMS, please update your details.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth Tasmania uses secure technology to connect patients with specialists, nurses or allied health professionals, so they can communicate face-to-face from different locations. This means that you have the opportunity to see your clinician by video without having to leave your home or community.

Video appointments are available to all patients. When it is clinically appropriate, you can request to have a video appointment, and your clinician will let you know if this is suitable.

Video appointments provide the same standard of care as face-to-face appointments, regardless of whether you attend your appointment face-to-face or by video.

Why use telehealth?

The benefits are:

  • Increased availability of services
  • Accessibility to specialist services
  • Improved affordability
  • Reduced travel time and cost
  • Provides health services within the patient's family network
